To make a 30cm / 12in tall black cockatoo, you will need the following approximate yarn lengths:

Polyester yarn - 12ply / bulky / size 6

Cotton yarn for eyes - 4ply / fingering / size 1

Skills needed to make this pattern

In order to successfully make this bird, you will need to know how to complete:
- increases and decreases
- crochet around a foundation chain
- sewing on various shapes and sizes of pieces, including flat and stuffed elements
- working with different weights of yarns
If you're making the black cockatoo you will also need to be able to do a little bit of embroidery-type sewing.

If you intend to make the crochet eyes you will also need to be able to do:
- multiple colour changes
- be persistent with intricate elements
